Am I eligible for the Warm Home Discount?

The Warm Home Discount (WHD) Everything you need to know

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people on:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

You must also have/receive any of the following:

  1. Parental responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2016 who usually lives with you

  2. The household has a responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2003 who's in full-time education

  3. You don’t need to pay NHS prescription charges because of:

    • An ongoing chronic illness or pregnancy
    • Pregnancy or having a baby in the last 12 months
    • Receiving a current MATEX or MEDEX certificate
  4. You currently receive any one of the following:

    • Child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element for a child born on or after 1st April 2001
    • A disabled child premium
    • A disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
    • A pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
    • War Disablement pension
    • Industrial Injuries Benefit
    • Child Disability Living Allowance
    • Disability Living Allowance
    • Personal Independance Payment
    • Carers Allowance when caring for someone who resides at the same property
    • Severe Disablement Allowance (income support only)
  5. A child who’s registered disabled

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people on Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

You must also have/receive any of the following:

  1. Parental responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2016 who usually lives with you

  2. The household has a responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2003 who's in full-time education

  3. Exemption from NHS prescription charges because of:

    • An ongoing chronic illness or pregnancy
    • Pregnancy or having a baby in the last 12 months
    • Receiving a current MATEX or MEDEX certificate
  4. You currently receive any one of the following:

  • Child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element for a child born on or after 1st April 2001
  • A disabled child premium
  • A disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
  • A pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
  • War Disablement pension
  • Industrial Injuries Benefit
  • Child Disability Living Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independance Payment
  • Carers Allowance when caring for someone who resides at the same property
  1. A child who’s registered disabled
  2. Support or Work Related activity component

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people on Universal Credit with a Gross Monthly Household Income not exceeding £1,349 (before tax and deductions)

You must also have/receive any of the following:

  1. Parental responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2016 who usually lives with you
  2. The household has a responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2003 who's in full-time education
  3. You get the housing element as part of your Universal Credit
  4. You get the limited capability for work element, with or without a work-related activity element as part of your Universal Credit
  5. You get the disabled child element as part of your Universal Credit
  6. You have a child who’s registered disabled
  7. You’re registered disabled or you receive disability benefits including:
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Child Disability Living Allowance
  1. Exemption from NHS prescription charges because of:
  • An ongoing chronic illness or pregnancy
  • Pregnancy or having a baby in the last 12 months
  • Receiving a current MATEX or MEDEX certificate
  1. You currently receive any one of the following:

    • War Disablement Pension
    • Industrial Injuries Benefit
    • Council Tax Benefit
    • A pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
    • A disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people who get Universal Credit and aren’t in work or self employed

You must also have/receive any of the following:

  1. Parental responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2016 who usually lives with you
  2. The household has a responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2003 who's in full-time education
  3. You get the housing element as part of your Universal Credit
  4. You get the limited capability for work element, with or without a work-related activity element as part of your Universal Credit
  5. You get the disabled child element as part of your Universal Credit
  6. You have a child who’s registered disabled
  7. You’re registered disabled or you receive disability benefits including:
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Child Disability Living Allowance
  1. You currently receive any one of the following:
  • A disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
  • A pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
  • War Disablement pension
  • Industrial Injuries Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people who get Child Tax Credit by virtue of an award, and based on an annual income not exceeding £16,190

You must also have/receive any of the following:

  1. Parental responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2016 who usually lives with you
  2. The household has a responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2003 who's in full-time education
  3. Receive Child Tax Credit which includes a disability element or severe disability element for a child born on or after 1 April 2003
  4. Disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
  5. Pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
  6. Child who’s disabled
  7. Disabled child premium
  8. You’re registered disabled or you receive disability benefits including:
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Child Disability Living Allowance

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people who have a total household income under £16,190 (before tax and deductions)

You must also have/receive any of the following:

  1. Parental responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2016 who usually lives with you
  2. The household has a responsibility for a child born on or after 1 April 2003 who's in full-time education
  3. You have a child who’s registered disabled
  4. You have a child who’s disabled and getting Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element for a child born on or after 1 April 2003
  5. Disabled child premium
  6. You’re registered disabled or you receive disability benefits including:
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Child Disability Living Allowance
  1. You have an exemption from NHS prescription charges because of:
  • An ongoing chronic illness or pregnancy
  • Pregnancy or having a baby in the last 12 months
  • Receiving a current MATEX or MEDEX certificate
  1. Your fuel bills for heating are more than 10% of Gross Annual Household Income

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people on Contribution Based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

You must also have/receive any of the following:

  1. Housing Benefit

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people on Free School Meals for children born on or before 1 April 2013

You don’t need to have/receive any other benefits.

This Warm Home Discount group is especially for people on Pension Credit and not included in Core Group

You don’t need to have/receive any other benefits.

How will you know if your application is successful?

We’ll let you know if you qualify within 5 days of receiving your application. We might need you to send us some photocopies of documents to support your application. We’ll apply the £140 to your meter within 6 weeks of you sending us these or, if we don’t need any photocopies, 6 weeks after your application is successful.

What if I don’t agree with your decision?

We can only base our decision on the information you give us. If you think you’ve made a mistake, you can apply again, but if your answers change then we might need more supporting evidence.

The Broader Group Warm Home Discount is distributed on a first come first serve basis. Ofgem dictate the number of rebates Boost can provide based on our market share.

Does the Warm Home Discount apply to gas?

It’s a discount for your electricity bill. But, if you’re a dual fuel customer, you can choose to add it to your gas meter balance when you apply.
